Our Pottery Workshops

Clay & Play Pottery Wheel Experience
Gather your friends for a relaxed and laughter-filled pottery experience at The Northern Pottery! In this fun and casual session, we’ll do the hard part for you (unless you want to have a go!), centering the clay on the wheel, so you can jump straight into the creative process.

Make Your Own Handbuilt Mug
Craft your very own mug in this hands-on workshop designed for beginners and clay enthusiasts alike! Using handbuilding techniques, you’ll create a mug that’s as unique as you are. Start with slab-rolled clay, shape it into your desired form, and add a personal touch with creative handles and decorative stamps.

Make your own Hand Carved Kurinuki Cup
Discover the ancient art of Kurinuki, a Japanese hand-carving technique that embraces imperfection and celebrates natural, organic forms. Start with a solid block of clay and carve it into a one-of-a-kind cup that reflects your unique vision. No two Kurinuki cups are the same, so this a perfect experience for beginners.

Paint Your Own Ceramics
Join us for a fun and colourful ceramics session where you can paint your own pottery masterpiece.

We’ll offer a choice of beautiful bisque-fired ceramic pieces (mugs, bowls, plates, vases, and more) ready for you to transform with underglaze painting. You’ll learn how to use brushes, layering techniques to create designs that are truly your own.

Throwing Big Masterclass
This one-day intensive workshop is designed for potters who are confident on the wheel and ready to throw bigger. Led by Dan D'Appio, Potter & The Northern Pottery Founder, you’ll explore the technical skills and creative approaches needed to create large-scale ceramic forms with confidence and control.

Make a Sake Set Pottery Wheel Workshop
In this focused pottery wheel workshop you’ll learn how to throw a sake bottle and matching cups using the technique of throwing off the hump. In this session you’ll learn how to control proportions, improve consistency, and shape elegant small forms while making a beautiful functional set.

The Teapot Project Pottery Wheel Workshop
Making a teapot is one of the most rewarding challenges on the pottery wheel. In this workshop you’ll explore the process of creating a teapot from multiple thrown parts, learning how to bring together form, balance and function. Across two guided sessions you’ll learn how to throw the main body of the pot, create a fitted lid, and shape additional elements such as the spout and handle.
