Private Pottery Experiences

Private pottery sessions at The Northern Pottery are designed for small groups who want to spend time together doing something creative, relaxed and a little different.

Unlike our public workshops, private sessions are just for your group, with a more relaxed pace and the flexibility to shape the experience around your occasion.

Choose Your Experience

At The Northern Pottery, private sessions are designed to be relaxed, hands on and genuinely memorable. You will spend a couple of hours working with clay, trying something new, and creating pieces that are entirely your own.

Our studio is set up for small groups, with a maximum of 8 people, so the experience always feels personal and considered.

Pottery Wheel Experience

This is the classic pottery experience and the most popular option for first time visitors.

You will be guided step by step through the basics of throwing on the wheel. We use pre centred clay so you can focus on the fun part from the start. Expect a few wobbly forms, a lot of laughs, and at least one piece you will be proud of.

Each person selects their favourite piece to be trimmed, glazed and fired by the studio, ready for collection a few weeks later.

  • Duration: 2 hours

  • Group size: 4 to 8 people

Handbuilding Pottery Workshop

A more relaxed, creative approach to working with clay. Ideal if you prefer a slower, more design focused session.

You will learn simple handbuilding techniques to create a mug, cup or small vessel. There is plenty of opportunity to personalise your piece using textures, stamps and decorative tools.

This option is ideal if you prefer a slower pace or want to focus more on surface and design.

Each person creates one finished piece, which we glaze and fire for you.

  • Duration: 2 hours

  • Group size: 4 to 8 people

A Social Studio Experience

Private sessions are designed to feel easy and enjoyable rather than overly structured.

You are welcome to bring along drinks or snacks, and we will have tea and coffee available in the studio. The focus is on spending time together, trying something new, and enjoying the process.

Check Availability

Private sessions are held on selected dates and tend to book out in advance, particularly on weekends.
